About BuyingForMom

BuyingForMom is an independent product review site for aging-in-place and senior home safety products. We exist because most product information in this category is either too clinical to act on, too generic to trust, or so stuffed with affiliate copy that you can’t tell what’s actually been researched.

Our focus is the practical question: which specific products actually work for older adults, and why? We organize everything by room and by health condition so families can find what they need without reading through medical jargon or sponsored content.

What we cover

  • By room: bathroom safety, bedroom modifications, kitchen accessibility, stairs and hallways, outdoor entry zones.
  • By condition: Parkinson’s, arthritis, dementia, post-stroke, balance and mobility, vision and hearing.
  • By product type: grab bars, walkers, fall detection devices, pill dispensers, shower chairs, raised toilet seats, smart home setups.
  • Gift guides: thoughtful options for parents who “don’t need anything.”
  • Renter-friendly options: no-drilling solutions for apartments and 55+ communities.

How we choose products

  • Verified Amazon reviews carry the most weight. A product with 4.2 stars from 8,000 verified buyers tells us more than 4.9 stars from 30 reviews.
  • We read the 1- and 2-star reviews carefully. That’s where you find the real failure modes.
  • We check in-stock status before publishing. Out-of-stock products get removed from articles.
  • We disclose product trade-offs. Nothing is perfect, and pretending otherwise wastes your time.
  • We don’t accept payment for placement. Rankings are based on what works, not what pays.

How this site makes money

BuyingForMom is reader-supported through the Amazon Associates affiliate program. When you click a link on this site and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. This is what funds the research time. Full details on our Affiliate Disclosure page.

What this site is not

This site is not medical advice. We are not doctors, nurses, or occupational therapists. Where topics get medical (falls, mobility, dementia care), we link to the resources we’d want you to look at — but the right person to make a final call for your family is whoever knows them best, and ideally a real OT or geriatric care manager who can do an in-home assessment.

Who this site is for

Two main audiences: adult children buying for aging parents, and older adults shopping for themselves. Every article is tagged by audience so you know which one it’s leaning toward. The product picks usually overlap; the framing changes.
